Welcome to the final bonus challenge of 2022, Kinkalotians! After so many gruelling weeks, we’re close to the end, but it’s still too early to stop having fun. So how about one last bonus challenge before the sun goes down on this fest?

Are your characters sneaking away for some fun during the day? Are they sharing more than time together in the middle of the night? Whatever they’re getting up to we want to see it!

What kind of content is acceptable for this challenge?

For our bonus challenge round, we welcome all kinds of content, from longer fics or bigger art pieces to shorter entries such as drabbles, drawbles, vids, recs (minimum of 6, please!), podfics, meta, headcanons, food art, aesthetic art, gifsets, interpretative dance…ANYTHING GOES!

Who can participate?

Not only is this a free-for-all when it comes to content, but we also welcome all anonymous people, lurkers, and non-participants to post their responses to this challenge. Come one, come all! The more the merrier, we say 😘

For the past two years, it’s been a Kinkalot tradition to show our appreciation for the fandom during Week 3, namely by reccing some of our favourite fanworks. This year, however, we decided to give things a little twist...

You guessed it! For this week’s bonus challenge, we're asking you to rec fics that are old or new!

What exactly do you need to do for this challenge? Well, this week you’ll need to rec us some non-Kinkalot related, Mature/Explicit fanworks that meet the either the OLD or NEW criteria listed below (or both if you really want to, though please note this won’t net you double points).

For your troubles, we will be awarding the following individual points:

3 points for completing the challenge.
1 point for commenting on all the M/Explicit fanworks you’ve linked to.
1 point for including at least 1 piece of non-fic fanwork in your list.

Rules:

1. You must submit your entry to this challenge either as a comment on this post or over in the appropriate thread over in the Kinkalot Discord server, so that we can all enjoy your kinky findings! To make this easier on everyone, we recommend using the template below. If you are posting on LJ/DW, just copy and paste everything in the text box into the comment box, add your answers and then post the comment. If you are posting on Discord, copy and paste your answers there.

2. In order to complete this challenge, your entry must:

Fill all of the criteria for the OLD or NEW challenge (or both);
Provide a link to each of the fanworks;
Provide your AO3 username.
OPTIONAL: For the full 5 points, you must also post a unique comment on each fanwork and include at least one non-fic fanwork in your list. You can still complete the challenge without doing one or both of these, but you will not receive the maximum amount of points.

3. Each fanwork you link to must be unique (no doubling up, or using the same fanwork for multiple challenges).

4. Only fanworks which are not a part of the Kinkalot fest may be used for this challenge. This means anything in one of the Kinkalot collections is off-limits, but everything else is fair game.

5. No self-recs, please.

6. You are welcome to post as many links as you like for a theme, but the maximum number of points you can earn for this challenge is 5.

As mods, we always do our best to take your feedback onboard and make the fest fun and fair for everyone, but there is always an element of luck involved with a competition such as this. Some people or teams may find that certain kinks hit more of a chord with them than others, and some people may choose to participate more (or less!) than their team members. Regardless, we hope you will still have a good time. There will be an opportunity at the end of the fest to let us know what worked/didn’t work for you and make suggestions for the future—but be gentle with us, please; we are still learning and adapting!

Things are heating up in the Merlin fandom, and we hope you’re ready for another scorcher, as it’s almost time to sign up for Kinkalot 2022!

What is Kinkalot?

Kinkalot is an annual porn fest run by and for BBC Merlin fans, following in the footsteps of such fabulous forebears as pornalot and the late, great Summer Pornathon. Throughout August, we host a new NSFW prompt challenge for participants each week, as well as a weekly bonus challenge that is open to all comers (heh). Participants are allocated into teams, who then compete in our month-long Team Bingo and Commenting challenges for the honour of winning the (~~still entirely fictitious~~) Kinkalot Cup.

FINAL RESULTS POST

Like all good things, even porn fests must come to an end, and it is with much sadness that we hereby bring Kinkalot 2021 to a close. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for another fantastic year!

If you haven’t done so already, please consider adding your main and bonus challenge entries, as well as any extra odds and ends created for the fest, to the Kinkalot 2021 AO3 Collection (or the Kinkalot 2021 Anonymous Collection if you don't want to own up to creating that particularly kinky entry). We would also love to hear from you about what you enjoyed most/least as part of this year’s fest, and if you have any suggestions for next year’s challenges, so please take some time to give us your feedback!

We really don’t have a Kinkalot Cup (we would like to point out we told you it was fictitious all along), but we do have some glory to bestow, so without further ado, here is the moment that you've all be waiting for:

This year is truly a year of Kinkalot firsts. Not only are we proud to inform you that the number of fanworks posted in the Kinkalot 2021 Collection has reached a record-breaking 286 works for this year’s fest, but we also have our first ever team tie!

Both THE KNIGHTS and THE SORCERERS duked it out down to the very last moments, but in the end they crossed the finish line with exactly 176 points each—a bit like two sides of the same coin, you might say 😉 Congratulations to both teams on a truly epic battle!

In second place, we have THE DRAGONS with 116 points. Although they had some setbacks, the Dragons nevertheless persevered in the face of adversity, for which we are pleased to award them the (you guessed it) first ever Dragonheart Award in recognition of their grit and resolve, and for going above and beyond the call of duty. Congratulations on your hard work, everyone!

We’d also like to give a huge Kinkalot shout-out to THE KNIGHTS, who won the +5 bonus points for the most comments left throughout the fest. The Knights left a whopping 645 comments between them, bringing smiles to the faces of fanwork creators everywhere. We salute you!

Team Mods

Each team will be led by an individual mod who will oversee the team Discord channel and help you to coordinate your efforts on the Kinkalot Bingo Challenge. You’re also welcome to contact your mod directly with any questions or problems you may have during the fest.

Team Discord Channels

IMPORTANT: While you can, theoretically, participate in Kinkalot Bingo on your own, to get the most out of this challenge you will need to work together with your teammates. For that reason, we strongly encourage you to join our Kinkalot server if you haven’t done so already. If you don’t have a Discord account, and/or would like some help setting this up, please contact your mod ASAP.

Team Scoreboard

The team scoreboard will be regularly updated to keep track of each team’s progress in the Kinkalot Bingo and Team Commenting challenges, as well as the points they may receive when members place in the Main Challenges, so make sure you check back frequently! This is the final Friday of our fest, and as such we’d like to remind you not only to VOTE ON THE MAIN CHALLENGE this week, but also to leave some comments before the challenge closes!

The team whose members leave the most comments BY TOMORROW, 4th SEPTEMBER 8PM BST will earn themselves a +5 point bonus at the end of the fest – but everyone who leaves a comment will get that warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from supporting your fellow fandom creators! 🥰

We’re in the home stretch now and it’s coming down to the wire, so if you’ve been sleeping on any of this week’s due dates, consider this your final mid-week wake-up call to shake a leg and get up and at ‘em! Let’s have you, lazy daisies!

VOTING FOR CHALLENGE 4 ENTRIES will close on Saturday 4 September at 6PM BST. Remember, voting is mandatory if you’re a participant, and voting is open to everyone, including those who haven’t signed up for the fest. We need YOU to help us award the Kinkalot Cup!*

Voting Rules:
